blogs i read

More and more these days I read up on what bloggers are writing about church, culture, life, politics and sports. What I love about blogs is that they are raw and honest. Unedited, transparent and sometimes in your face. And of course they’re free. You don’t have to pay a magazine subscription or buy a newspaper. However, not all blogs are good reads. I’m always reminded how important it is to filter what you read, watch and listen to.

To that end, here are some blogs I read on a regular to somewhat regular basis, in no particular order:

  1. www.tuaw.com - TUAW stands for “The Unofficial Apple Weblog.” The contributers on this blog gather all the rumors and hottest news on Apple Inc. and post it all here. I’m a huge Mac-addict, so this blog gives me my daily fix and stirs up anticipation for what Steve Jobs will do next.
  2. www.evotional.com - This is Mark Batterson’s blog, the pastor of National Community Church in DC. I like the way he thinks and approaches daily life. I don’t agree with everything he writes, but still find myself learning much from him. The vision of NCC is to meet in movie theaters at metro stops throughout the metro DC area.
  3. www.eugenecho.com - Eugene is the pastor of Quest Church in Seattle. I first met him in Seattle during my DTS and invited him out to Boston for a retreat during my days as a youth pastor. We fell out of touch but then reconnected when Cornerstone joined the ECC, where Quest is also affiliated. He always has something insightful to say and mixes up his posts when a good dose of humor. He’s also one of the people who encouraged me to keep blogging when I wasn’t sure if it was worthwhile.
  4. www.angryasianman.com - As an Asian American I’m confronted with race issues everyday. This blog keeps me posted on what’s going on around the country in regards to issues other Asian Americans are dealing with. And contrary to the title of his blog, he’s not as angry as you might think. He posts many updates on the achievements and progress AA’s are making in the larger society. FYI: I love the figurine on the homepage. If you don’t know who it is, it’s Quick Kick from G.I. Joe… one my childhood obsessions.
  5. swerve.lifechurch.tv - This is the leadership blog of LifeChurch.tv. Through technology, pastor Craig Groeschel shares everything he and his church has to offer. They are a mega-church that meets in almost 20 locations each Sunday. His blog gives very practical, bite size tips on leadership and ministry.

I could keep going, but 5 is a nice round number. But here are just a few more without the commentary that you might find useful, hilarious, insightful, reflective, annoying, etc.
