unplugged

Last week my family and I came back from a 1-week vacation, and the obvious question I was asked by everyone was “How was your vacation?” Good. Thanks for asking everyone! But do you ever get the feeling that sometimes you need a vacation for the vacation. As nice as it is to get away, I usually come back just as tired if not more than when I left. Like when you charge your laptop to 100%, as soon as you unplug it, the power meter starts to go 98%… 95%… 89%… and so on. Is it possible to recharge while you’re unplugged??

I think so. One way I unplug is by working out at the gym. For me this is a daily routine. And this is the ONLY place and time during the day when I’m not carrying my Crackberry with me (e.g. Crackberry = Blackberry).
Yes, working out is physically exhausting. That’s the point! But for me it is mentally and emotionally refreshing. A great way to start the day.

Another way I recharge by being unplugged is taking a week (or two) off from teaching on Sunday. The past two weeks Moses and Simon stepped up for me. And one thing I’ve learned is that taking two weeks off from the pulpit is 50 X’s better than just taking one.

What about you? What are some ways you unplug from the daily routine of life? What do you do that gives you a breath of fresh air for your soul?

I know we talked about this before. But i definitely think your ability to step away and take breaks every once in a while is strong trait to have. too many times, too many leaders don’t trust the people underneath them to step away, so they take on everything themselves all the time, and it ultimately leads to burn out. God rested on the 7th day and Jesus felt fatigue too.

My way of charging while unplugged is sitting down on my bed (if i lie down, sometimes i fall asleep) with some good music on and just listen for a while. that’s why i love finding good, full albums. I can just put one on, and relax and listen for a good 40 minutes to an hour straight.

if i need a full charge, then taking a day from work off to just do nothing, but relax. it might border on laziness, but i always feel great after doing it and i feel like i’m much sharper when i come back to work.
