hot summer reads

The summer months are good for many reasons. Warm weather, longer day light hours, vacations, BBQs, beach trips, etc. One thing I try to do every summer is catch up on some reading. I come across books throughout the year that I want to read, but just don’t have the time to open. My idea of a good retreat is to go up to a cabin in the woods and just read for days. So come summer, I like to read various books of interest, not just ministry related books.

This month I’ve read:

Currently, I’m reading:

A lot of what I read are suggestions from friends and peers. Have you read anything recently that stuck with you and affected your thinking? Do you have any must read suggestions? If so, I’d love to hear from you.

Dude… I have, or should I say, Nathan has the whole Dr. Seuss collection. Can’t wait to read the Narnia series and Harry Potter with the boys.

I haven’t read all of Freakonomics yet but the little I did read was pretty interesting. A very different view on things.

The Shack by William P. Young

I just finished reading “The Shack” and it has to be one of my favorite book. The author came to talk at my church and it was really touching.

If you like “The Kite Runner,” I think you will like “A Long Way Gone.” It is an autobiography that gives you a glimpse of life in Sierra Leone as an young boy.

A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah

The Shack seems to be growing in popularity. I see more and more people around who are reading it. Thanks for the suggestion!
