Last night millions of viewers tuned in to watch the 2008 NBA draft. Leading up to the draft many experts and sports commentators shared their thoughts and predictions on which players would fit in with which teams. For some teams, history can be made in a single choice on draft night. However at the end of the day, the NBA draft is still a toss up, or as the top picks are called “a lottery.” And despite some teams winning out and drafting well, there are usually many more losers and regrets. The New York Times released an article today about Christians in Iraq that had been paying for protection for years. Their pastor Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho was threatened that unless payments were made, he and his congregation would be killed. When security in Iraq increased last year along with the news that the man behind these murderous threats had been killed, the church stopped paying. Two weeks later, Archbishop Rahho’s body was found in a shallow grave outside Mosul, the biblical city of Ninevah. Read more »

More and more these days I read up on what bloggers are writing about church, culture, life, politics and sports. What I love about blogs is that they are raw and honest. Unedited, transparent and sometimes in your face. And of course they’re free. You don’t have to pay a magazine subscription or buy a newspaper. However, not all blogs are good reads. I’m always reminded how important it is to filter what you read, watch and listen to. Read more »

Gone are the days when people come over and ask to borrow a book from my library. Nowadays, it’s just easier to find what you’re looking for online. Thank God for Google! But amidst all the options floating around in cyberspace, who can tell what’s a good resource with good theology. I’ve come across some with sites that teach some weird stuff.
