First of all, before I answer this question let me apologize for not blogging regularly. The start of 2008 has been really good for me personally, and to be honest, blogging hasn’t been one of my top priorities. But after talking to a good friend recently about pastors who blog, I’ve been affirmed and encouraged that it is valuable and necessary. The Way I See It…

One thing I love about the month of January is the fresh start to a new year. A good friend of mine who is a recovering alcoholic always reminds me that “Each day is a gift.” How true it is! Moses prays in Psalm 90 “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” One resolution I’ve made this year is to read the bible everyday with my church. Q18. If God planned everything out for us…

why is it that it’s OK for us to thank him for good things that happen, but we shouldn’t blame him for bad things that happen?

Another way to ask this question would be “If God controls all things, how can our actions have real meaning?” These are questions about God’s providence. Providence is defined as “the protective care of God or of nature as a spiritual power.” Providence is also understood as God’s ongoing relationship to his creation. The Bible does not teach that events in creation are determined by chance, nor are they determined by impersonal fate, but by God, who is the personal yet infinitely powerful Creator and Lord.
